Mardi Gras 2016
Welcoming you exactly as you are
Uniting will be joining in the 2016 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade and walking in celebration to show their support for the ageing Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex communities.
In October 2015, Uniting achieved the Rainbow Tick Accreditation, making it the first not-for-profit and faith-based organisation in Australia to be recognised officially as LGBTI-friendly. The organisation was also included in Pride in Diversity’s list of “Top 20 Employers” in Australia for LGBTI people.
At Mardi Gras Uniting staff, volunteers and residents will come together to show their ongoing support for LGBTI communities – Uniting welcomes everyone exactly as they are.
Steve Teulan, Director Ageing at Uniting said, “Our greatest hope is that in the next decade the aged care sector will be inclusive so that all older members of the LGBTI communities seeking aged care services will no longer have a reason to fear discrimination or lack of sensitivity and understanding.”
Photo opportunity: Uniting staff and volunteers together with members of the Uniting Church will be gathered outside Pitt Street Uniting Church on Saturday 5 March at 5pm before joining the parade.
