The Australian Aged Care Quality Agency’s Better Practice Award will be presented to staff and residents today (Wednesday, 17 February) at Uniting Annesley House, Leichhardt.
Uniting Annesley House is home for seniors who previously have been homeless or who are living with mental health issues. Two years ago staff designed the Building Capacity program to build the capacity of their team to continuously improve the wellbeing and enrich the lives of residents so they can live the lives they choose. The team now run activities together with the residents; relaxation, gardening and even a day spa.
Uniting Annesley House Service Manager, Jennifer McPherson is proud of her team’s achievements, “My team identified that they needed development, there is always room for improvement. The team has worked tirelessly over 12 months together to support and guide each other. They’ve also managed to introduce new activities and events. I’m extraordinarily proud of their achievement.”
Team member and Diversional Therapist Hannah Buckland, can see improvements in residents too, “By empowering staff with knowledge and training residents are more at ease, and we staff have fun. Everyone is part of the Annesley family,” she said.
