As a Pride in Diversity and Pride in Health and Wellbeing member, we welcome Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) people to our team. Uniting was the first faith-based organisation in Australia to be officially recognised as LGBTI friendly by receive Rainbow Tick Accreditation for its aging and corporate services in 2015, and was recently reaccredited in 2018 for its ageing, corporate, Local Area Coordination and War Memorial Hospital Services. Uniting was a winner at the 2018 AWEI awards as one of Australia’s top LGBTI employers, which it has won for several years in a row. We are committed to increasing the workforce participation rates of people with a disability at Uniting, and are working on a range of actions including:
- Developing workplace cultures that appropriately support employees with a disability
- Taking purposeful action to increase representation levels of people with a disability working at Uniting
- Developing more effective ways to measure employment outcomes for people with a disability at Uniting
- Addressing accessibility and career progression issues for employees with a disability, including workplace accessibility, and flexibility in working arrangements and job design.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
At Uniting, we are committed to a strategy for more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to join us.
We’re working with the Department of Education and Training and the Department of Employment to become a corporate leader in Indigenous employment. We are also working to ensure 2% of the total Uniting workforce are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. That is more than 140 new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.
Jaanimili is the name given to the Aboriginal Services & Development Unit within Uniting. Jaanimili means ‘gathering’ from the Gumbaynggirr Aboriginal people of the mid north coast of NSW. The Jaanimili group invites the participation of all Aboriginal staff working across the organisation to inform our cultural model of working in NSW/ACT.
One of the roles of the Jaanimili group is to provide cultural support and guidance to our employees from Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal backgrounds. As part of the organisation’s commitment to Australia’s First Peoples, Jaanimili is responsible for leading relationships and work with Aboriginal people and communities across NSW and the ACT.
