As a Pride in Diversity member and winner of their LGBTI Workplace Inclusion award within the Not-for-Profit/Charity category, we welcome Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) people to our team. Uniting was also a winner at the 2017 AWEI awards as one of Australia’s top LGBTI employers. We also have a dedicated HR person who specialises in LGBTI–related employment questions. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
At Uniting, we are committed to a strategy for more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to join us.
We’re working with the Department of Education and Training and the Department of Employment to become a corporate leader in Indigenous employment. We are also working to ensure 2% of the total Uniting workforce are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. That is more than 140 new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.
Jaanimili is the name given to the Aboriginal Services & Development Unit within Uniting. Jaanimili means ‘gathering’ from the Gumbaynggirr Aboriginal people of the mid north coast of NSW. The Jaanimili group invites the participation of all Aboriginal staff working across the organisation to inform our cultural model of working in NSW/ACT.
One of the roles of the Jaanimili group is to provide cultural support and guidance to our employees from Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal backgrounds. As part of the organisation’s commitment to Australia’s First Peoples, Jaanimili is responsible for leading relationships and work with Aboriginal people and communities across NSW and the ACT.
