If you care for someone with a disability, you know how beneficial it can be for them to get away for some relaxation and fun. We all need a break from everyday life every once in a while.
While the person you care for is enjoying a change in a safe and homelike environment, you can catch up on life’s other responsibilities, recharge your energy and increase your capacity to keep providing care.
We welcome children, young people and adults with a disability (aged 7 to 64 years).
People can join us for:
Sarah's storyIt’s the little things that make all the difference for Matthew and Nicholas. The eight-year-old twin boys are supported by Uniting respite, setting them up for the future and giving their mum Sarah and the rest of the family time out for themselves.
We support each person to use and develop their everyday life skills while staying with us. Our modified vehicles mean that everyone can come along and join the activities.
Whether it’s cooking dinner as a team, bushwalking, swimming or just spending time outdoors, we carefully get to know each person who joins us for respite so that our activities are designed around their interests.
Finding an activity people love can be a great way to:
We can also provide respite at your home or in the community. This is an opportunity for people with a disability to take part in activities in the local community or relax at home while carers have a break from their usual routine.
It’s not always easy to admit that caring for someone with a disability can be tiring. So if you’re going to keep offering care long-term, it’s important that you take some time to look after yourself.
We’d love to speak with you about how we can support you to take a break from your caring role and recharge.
We'd love to hear from you and we’re here to help.
