Funding for Uniting Medically Supervised Injecting Centre (MSIC) comes from the Confiscated Proceeds of Crime Account, which is managed by the New South Wales Treasury.
Right from the planning stages the majority of the local community of Kings Cross has always been supportive of the Uniting MSIC and the overall concept. Independent organisations have done regular random telephone surveys of local residents and businesses, which have shown that this support continues today. For example, latest figures from a KPMG evaluation show that 78% of local residents and 70% of local businesses support Uniting MSIC.
Organisations from across Australia and the world also support the service.
Uniting MSIC was independently evaluated for nearly a decade by a number of different agencies. Eleven reports have been released by five different agencies evaluating Uniting MSIC, all of which show that the service is meeting its aims.
