Uniting Newpin

Newpin was first established in the United Kingdom (UK). The first Uniting Newpin centre was opened at Bidwill in Sydney’s western suburbs in April 1998. The Uniting Newpin is a therapeutic restoration and reunification program which provides emotional and practical support to families with at least one child under the age of six.

Uniting has since adapted the original UK model to respond to the Australian context. The program was chosen as Australia’s first Social Benefit Bond Pilot in 2013. In New South Wales, Uniting Newpin focuses primarily on the restoration of children in out-of-home care to their parents.

"Newpin is a harbinger of hope. Hope that we can work together to build a world fit for children. The holistic nature of Newpin shows us that we can think outside the bureaucratic boxes and professional barriers of mental health, child protection and early childhood education and care."

Emeritus Professor Dorothy Scott, OAM, Patron of Newpin Australia
