Stay healthy

If you’re over the age of 65 and want to stay fit and healthy, our occupational therapy team can help.

We offer personalised rehabilitation services to you in the hospital and at home, with the aim of helping you to get back to doing the activities you want to do, safely and independently.

Equipment loans

Sometimes equipment can really help you to keep living independently at home.

We can provide short-term loans of equipment to War Memorial Hospital clients following an assessment by Allied Health staff.

Falls and balance

If you have experienced changes to your balance or mobility skills or recently had a fall we are here to help.

The Falls and Balance Clinic can provide diagnostic and treatment services.

Community independence

If you have been recently discharged from hospital or are a senior and feel you are at risk of becoming housebound, we have a number groups to help you stay fit, healthy and allow you to meet new people.


'Walkwell' is a walking group for older people who feel unsteady on their feet and want to say healthy. This group runs for 10 weeks during school terms.

Tai Chi

'Tai Chi' classes are a fun and safe way to help you stay fit and healthy. If you are an older person who doesn’t feel as strong as you used to, these classes run during school term and can help you keep active.

Lite and Ezy

Our ‘Lite and Ezy’ chair exercise classes are a great way to move and meet people.

Stepping Out - a falls prevention group

'Stepping Out' is an education program complete with practical exercises. If you are concerned about falling, this class runs over six weeks with on-going exercise groups providing strength and balance training.

Health promotions

Physical activity can improve your balance, strength and bone mass.

Health Promotion works in partnership with the Occupational Therapy Department to run groups focusing on these areas.
