Spiritual and pastoral care

Spiritual care

At Uniting, we believe that spirituality is more than just religion. Spirituality is at the core of every person – that part of us that seeks to find meaning, purpose and connection in life. Some people express their spirituality through religion. Others may find meaning and purpose through the arts, nature, or relationships.

We know that not all spiritual care is religious, but religious care should always be spiritual. We want to see people thrive spiritually, so our approach to spiritual care seeks to meet you at your point of need and provide support and encouragement to you.  A listening ear, conversation and gentle attention to your spiritual wellbeing will help to achieve a sense of peace and comfort.  If you prefer more structured support, that’s okay too – we can provide services such as pastoral counselling, prayer support, personal reflection and/or opportunities for worship.

If you’d like to speak with someone from your own cultural or faith group, we can arrange that as well.

Pastoral care

Pastoral care is about being with you. Our chaplains and pastoral practitioners are trained in listening and being a healing presence.

We understand that not everyone expresses their spirituality through religion, so we offer pastoral support to people regardless of lifestyle choices, ethnicity, faith, sexual orientation or gender identity. Our chaplains and pastoral practitioners are here to support you in your spiritual journey.

Helping you find hope

Sometimes life does not go as we expect and we can struggle to find hope in our changed situation. For many people, change can be a painful experience. Our chaplains and pastoral practitioners offer support, encouragement and realistic hope as you adjust to all the changes life can bring, whether it’s through a time of challenge or of growth and new beginnings.
