Steering towards a brighter future
This is a free program connecting learner drivers with volunteer mentors for the 120 hours of driving practice needed before they can go for their P-plates.
At Uniting, we understand that access to transport means access to opportunities. Public transport isn’t always an option, so having a driver’s licence opens the road to education and employment opportunities. The ability to drive also offers the chance to stay connected with friends and family when you live far away.
Many people face everyday challenges that prevent them from easily obtaining their licence. Our 120 Countdown program matches learner drivers with trained volunteer mentors who provide free weekly driving lessons in a fully maintained Uniting vehicle. Volunteer mentors continue to support learners to complete their 120 practice hours and then sit their provisional driving test. Our 120 Countdown services currently operate in:
Taking the wheel
Our learners are of all ages and backgrounds, facing the common barrier of access to transport options. All you need are your L-plates, a willingness to commit to regular sessions, and a drive to succeed.
In the passenger seat
As a volunteer mentor, you’ll make a life-changing difference for a learner driver by providing practical support on the road to independence and opportunity. To become a mentor, you’ll need a full licence and a couple of hours a week to commit to regular sessions with a learner driver. Have a chat to us today about registering with 120 Countdown.
Come for the ride
Together, we can achieve even more. The 120 Countdown program encourages collaboration with local businesses and community groups to share values and work towards common goals. If you’re interested in partnering with us, we’d love to hear from you.
