Short term accommodation (respite)
A perfect home away from home
If you care for someone with a disability, you know how beneficial it can be for them to get away for some relaxation and fun. We all need a break from everyday life every once in a while.
While the person you care for is enjoying a change in a safe and homelike environment, you can catch up on life’s other responsibilities, recharge your energy and increase your capacity to keep providing care.
Uniting Belfield House
At Uniting Belfield House we have a purpose-built 6 bedroom home where we welcome children and young people with a disability aged seven to 17 years.
You can join us for:
- An overnight sleepover
- A weekend
- A week or longer.
When your child visits Belfield House, we want them to feel at home. That’s why we'll work with you to create a profile of likes, interests, preferred communication methods and other important information. We also have a specially designed communication wall, ipads and other tools that give children the option of expressing thoughts, feelings and needs visually.
It’s the little things that make all the difference for Matthew and Nicholas. The eight-year-old twin boys are supported by Uniting respite, setting them up for the future and giving their mum Sarah and the rest of the family time out for themselves.
We support each person to use and develop their everyday life skills while staying with us. Our modified vehicles mean that everyone can come along and join the activities. Whether it’s the park, the movies, or just staying in and playing games, our team encourages enthusiasm, creativity and friendly interaction.
We have a large range of age-appropriate activities, which can be tailored to your child’s needs. We’ll support your child to develop new skills, including learning to cook and becoming independent with personal care, we can also help with homework. An activity can be a great way to:
- Learn a new skill
- Build life skills and independence
- Reduce social isolation for people and their families
- Participate in fun activities in the community.
