Art from the heart
"It’s like painting is taking me to another world where everything is possible; where the magic happens."
— MSIC client
MORE THAN JUST CLIENTS
People who use drugs are often defined by only one aspect of their lives — the drugs. But no human is one dimensional. The people who visit MSIC are creative, varied, skilled, interesting and have many diverse and different talents. One of the talents is artistic ability. From all walks of life, with a huge variety of experiences to draw on, these artists are extraordinary in so many ways. Watch our documentary from 2016 to understand more.
AN AUSTRALIAN FIRST. A LIFESAVING INITIATIVE.
The Uniting Medically Supervised Injecting Centre (MSIC) Kings Cross is the only centre of its kind in Australia. The word special is an understatement, as MSIC saves lives with a frequency that’s astonishing.
People who inject drugs are able to rely on the staff at MSIC to offer compassionate and practical advice; and to assist them when they are at their most vulnerable. There’s no judgement here. The focus is on harm reduction. By concentrating on reducing the consequences of drug use on a person’s health and well-being, MSIC is a reliable constant in many chaotic worlds.
BUYING THE ARTWORKS
All proceeds from the sale of artworks go directly to the artists and art is sold to the highest bidder via silent bids. The process is simple: let us know which painting you’d like to buy and how much you’d like to pay, and we’ll notify you if you’re the highest bidder. In the case of two equal high bids, we’ll draw a name out of a hat. Payment must be in cash.
If you’d like to own one of these inspirational paintings, please note the catlogue number of your favourite painting and download the bidding form here. Simply fill it out and email it to us by 30 September 2017 and we’ll do the rest.
