Get help while you’re on the waiting list

Sometimes, getting approval for your Home Care Package can drag on and you may have to wait a while in the queue. Fortunately, you can still apply for help through the Commonwealth Home Support Program (or CHSP)

Commonwealth Home Support Program offers many of the same services you might receive through your Home Care Package, but because you don’t have to wait for funding, you can access them more quickly.

Commonwealth Home Support Program can support you with:

  • Social Support Groups offering a range of activities at one of our day centres
  • Social Support Individual – a support worker can visit you in your home or maybe take you out for a coffee or a shopping trip
  • Centre-Based respite – you can join in with our group activities while your carer takes a break
  • Flexible in-home respite - either a support worker can come into your home to relieve your carer, or take you out of the house for activities
  • Centre-Based respite – you can join in with our group activities while your carer takes a break
  • Cottage Respite offers overnight stays in one of our purpose built facilities
  • Seniors Gyms – we can help you to stay active with an individual fitness programme.

We’ll make sure we let you know costs upfront when we talk to you.

How do you apply for Commonwealth Home Support Program?

As with Home Care Packages, the first step is to contact the Australian Government My Aged Care. They will arrange an in-home or over the phone assessment and then you can choose a provider like Uniting to help you.

We’ll make sure we let you know costs upfront when we talk to you.
