LGBTI inclusion

We create welcoming and inclusive environments for all our people and those that we serve. But what does that really mean? How does Uniting ensure it is inclusive?

Our commitment

We’re passionate about helping people lead happy, healthy lives. As an organisation, we celebrate diversity and welcome all people regardless of ethnicity, faith, sexual orientation, intersex variation or gender identity.

Our organisational strategy includes our commitment to celebrating the LGBTI community. Our strategy is to evolve our advocacy, inclusivity and safe environments for members of LGBTI communities, their families and friends.

Our LGBTI strategy is to be leaders of inclusive practices so that members of the LGBTI communities, their friends and families, feel welcome and safe. This means we welcome all people including those who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Gender Diverse and those with an Intersex variation – or however you identify.

Our credibility and partnerships

We are a longstanding member of Pride in Diversity and a foundation member of Pride in Health and Wellbeing.

Each year we take part in the Australian Workplace Equity Index (AWEI) benchmarking exercise run by Pride in Diversity. This has consistently recognised Uniting as one of Australia’s top LGBTI employers.

We also advocate on many local, state and federal committees such as:

  • The Department of Ageing Diversity Committee
  • The inner Western LGBTI Forum
  • The LGBTI Domestic Violence Interagency
  • The Central Coast Rainbow Networks group
  • The Northern Rivers LGBTI Alliance.

Rainbow Tick

Uniting was the first faith-based aged care organisation in Australia to be officially recognised as LGBTI friendly and we received Rainbow Tick Accreditation in 2015.

In 2018 Uniting is looking to gain re-accreditation for its aged care and corporate services once again.

Accredited services are:
